Help for Haiti....

Our MS service learning classes have pooled their thoughts and resources together to raise money for victims of the Haiti earthquake.  All week 5th and 7th grade students  have sponsored several activities to raise funds to help a non-profit orphanage in Haiti with the support of two teachers; Mrs. Backhaus and Mrs. Bockenstedt.

Today was a great day for their fundraiser. I was able to see student-driven work in action within our learning environment.  Today was a student sponsored dance for 1 hour during the school day.  The dance was organized by 7th graders and 2 students were great leaders.  They took this opportunity to think "out of the box"and use their technology to make this event great for all participants. These two students downloaded Just Dance and Just Dance 2 videos from YOU TUBE and projected these videos on a screen so all students could participate in dancing to the music.  All too often at MS dances, students take a while to warm up and begin dancing....in this environment all students were motivated to boogie.  Including myself.  From what I could see, students were having a blast while sponsoring a great event.  Altogether MS students raised approximately $700 in a week's time to donate to a great cause.
