Quizlet with Mrs. Lawrence's Reading Class

Mrs. Lawrence teaches Second Chance Reading to 7th grade students.  Each week students work on a story and have vocabulary words and requirements to meet with each story.  Mrs. Lawrence decided to use Quizlet.com to introduce the vocabulary words to the students and allow students an opportunity to interact and learn the words and their definitions in the vocabulary list each week. Mrs. Lawrence has used Quizlet with 7th grade students and has discovered this is a great program to teach such comprehension strategies and provide students some hands on experience with their learning of vocabulary words.  The Quizlet tool allow for drill/skill and interactive work with vocabulary words.  She has found her students are very engaged and are willing to work extremely hard at learning the required words for the weekly reading.

In turn, in Quizlet there are many pre-created lists of vocabulary words to various subjects and topics.  A couple of my favorite categories/subject areas are the foreign language categories.  Several languages are represented as pre-made word lists which allow for students to study a language without even being enrolled in a class.  Also, there is a pre-made word list that is geared to help students with their preparation portion for the ACT test in the area of the vocabulary test.

During their vocabulary development work, one of Mrs. Lawrence's students discovered in Quizlet a user can use voice recognition to study words and their definition .  This feature provides numerous benefits to struggling readers. As a reading teacher it is important to build comprehension to see the word correctly, to hear the word correctly, and say the word correctly, before understanding it's meaning.

Awesome work Mrs. Lawrence.  You make learning FUN for students.
